Between May and October 1917, Mary appeared six times to the three shepherd children (Sisters) Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta near the Portuguese town of Fátima.$R $ She called on the children to do penance and make sacrifices with the aim of helping suffering souls out of purgatory and to pray for the conversion of sinners so that they would not go to hell. Mary also instructed them to pray the Rosary every day for peace.
